Rosemount awarded $1.5 million grant for Downtown project

October 1st, 2007 Posted in Community

The City of Rosemount is expressing gratitude for a grant awarded for Downtown revitalization by the Metropolitan Council of the Twin Cities.

The Met Council board voted December 12 to award Rosemount $1,587,500 under the Council’s Livable Communities program. The City will use the money to assist with infrastructure improvements needed for the first phase of redevelopment.

“During the Livable Communities process, committee members noted that Rosemount’s project embodies the goals of the grant program: affordable housing, high density and mixed use development, and innovative infrastructure techniques,” said Rosemount Community Development Director Kim Lindquist. “By awarding Rosemount our full request, the Met Council supported our vision for Downtown redevelopment and recognized that these enhancements will become a catalyst for more reinvestment in our Downtown.”

“Rosemount citizens have contributed tax dollars toward the Met Council’s Livable Communities program for years,” said Mayor Bill Droste. “It’s great news for our taxpayers that funds are coming back to the community in recognition of the goals for economic development and housing that we share with the rest of the Twin Cities.”

The City applied for the grant earlier this year to support its redevelopment effort at Core Block East. The Rosemount Port Authority reached an agreement December 10 to purchase the final parcel needed for the project. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2008. Click here for more information.
